Product Designer

We are looking for a thoughtful and exceptionally talented product designer to help us invent magical learning experiences for kids.

As a designer at JAM you’ll have a primary role in product decisions and our process. You should be comfortable with autonomy and ownership of large areas of the product.

Our company is small and tight-knit, and our culture emphasizes personal creativity and skill growth.  We’re passionate, detail-oriented, hard working, and fulfilled by our mission.

Some unique things about us:

  • We have breakfast together every Friday to share what we’re working on outside the office
  • After two years every team member receives a bonus vacation and stipend to have an extraordinary new learning experience
  • We retreat to a forest camp once a year to build something together

At JAM you will:

  • Lead design of an educational service for kids used on both mobile and desktop platforms
  • Tackle unique product problems with well-organized solutions
  • Have a keen awareness for delighting users
  • Create interactive design prototypes to share and validate designs both internally and externally
  • Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product, engineering, and executive teams
  • Plan research studies to understand and validate product concepts
  • Work closely with engineers and executives to ensure that the user experience is simple, straightforward, and elegant

  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience creating digital product experiences across multiple platforms, with at least 2 years creating digital experiences on mobile
  • Designed at least one consumer-facing mobile app that shipped
  • Able to own all aspects of a project from concept to implementation
  • Ability to clearly articulate design decisions and the problems they are solving
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • A cool temperament and ability to adapt quickly to new processes
  • A collaborative team player
  • Experience with an iterative design process where you incorporate feedback, launch quickly and test hypotheses
  • Experience participating in and conducting usability studies
  • Solid design foundation (typography, grid, form, composition, color, etc.) but also able to break the rules deliberately from time to time
  • Able to bring your designs to life – you know enough HTML & CSS (and maybe even JavaScript) to be dangerous, and you are constantly testing/using new prototyping and design tools
